Obsidian Provides Network Security and Business Analysis support to the Department of Health and Human Services through the engineering of the IT Security Services component within Infrastructure Engineering. The IT Security Services component applies to hardware, software and services provided to maintain network security for HHS. We support the security monitoring using the Spunk Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) system, firewall services, intrusion detection and reporting, and security architecture services.

Obsidian provides a variety of enterprise engineering services to the State
Department’s Information Resource Management (IRM) Bureau, which provides transparent interconnected systems and security to allow the State Department to successfully carry out its US foreign policy mission. Notably, we architected,
engineered, and successfully implemented a network micro-segmentation (also known as network enclaving) solution for State to protect high value assets utilizing Palo Alto Next Generation firewalls. We also provide Security Engineering in support of DoS.

System Owners pursuing ATOs. Our Information System Security Officers (ISSOs) were integral in the processing of a large backlog of Notification of Change submissions and led the IPT responsible for the ATO. In addition to providing Security and IA Subject OMatter Expertise, we also supplied Voice Engineering, Network Administration, Sharepoint Administration, Quality Management and Business Analysis to the IRM.

Obsidian supported the DoS OIG cloud computing network and implemented a new cloud security architecture within MS Azure that was independent of the rest of DoS. Obsidian led an effort to deploy a cloud-based Palo Alto firewall solution to protect the development, test, and production instances of DoS OIG’s new website that is hosted in the Microsoft Azure Government Cloud.

Obsidian led the Cloud Systems Security team at USPTO through an agency-wide initiative to migrate systems and applications to AWS. Obsidian provided Security Architecture and oversight support to ensure that 3rd party vendors, including CSPs, are adhering to USPTO, NIST, and FISMA requirements. We ensured that all AWS services used by USPTO were FedRAMP compliant, ATO documentation was
maintained, and processes were developed for compliance scanning and review.
