Cloud Engineer

Location: Remote

Clearance: Public Trust (U.S. Citizenship required)

Position Summary

The Cloud Engineer will design, deploy, integrate, and optimize cloud infrastructure solutions across a Federal Agency’s hybrid and multi-cloud environment. This role combines cloud systems engineering, infrastructure automation, DevOps, performance monitoring and cost optimization. The engineer will also support the integration and scaling of advanced AI and machine learning solutions within cloud environments.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, engineer, and deploy scalable, secure, and reliable cloud infrastructure across multiple platforms.

  • Integrate cloud environments with existing on-premises infrastructure and third-party services.

  • Optimize cloud systems for performance, reliability, availability, and cost efficiency.

  • Develop infrastructure automation using Terraform, Ansible, cloud-native tools, and scripting technologies.

  • Build and support CI/CD pipelines for automated infrastructure and application deployment.

  • Implement and maintain monitoring solutions to track system health, availability, and performance.

  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.

  • Evaluate, test, deploy, and maintain both custom-developed and third-party software and system upgrades.

  • Collaborate with project managers and technical stakeholders to define project scope, schedules, technical requirements, and deliverables.

  • Develop and maintain system architecture diagrams, implementation plans, troubleshooting procedures, and technical documentation.

  • Monitor cloud expenditures and identify opportunities to improve infrastructure utilization and reduce unnecessary costs.

  • Use cloud cost-management tools to analyze usage, forecast spending, and support cost-optimization strategies.

  • Design and deploy advanced AI and machine learning solutions within cloud environments.

  • Integrate machine learning models into cloud architectures and optimize model performance, scalability, and resource utilization.

  • Evaluate emerging cloud technologies and recommend solutions that improve automation, scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Science, or a related technical discipline.

  • 5+ years of relevant systems engineering, infrastructure, or cloud engineering experience.

  • Strong experience designing, deploying, and supporting enterprise systems and cloud infrastructure.

  • Experience integrating cloud services with traditional on-premises environments.

  • Experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management technologies.

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical and non-technical issues.

  • Experience evaluating, testing, deploying, and maintaining software and infrastructure upgrades.

  • Ability to develop and maintain system architecture and troubleshooting documentation.

  • Experience conducting engineering studies, technical assessments, or analysis of complex technology and operational issues.

  • Experience developing technical plans such as implementation plans, engineering plans, or integrated support plans.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.

  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a Public Trust.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience supporting AWS and/or Microsoft Azure environments.

  • Experience with Terraform, Ansible, and cloud-native infrastructure automation.

  • Experience developing or supporting CI/CD pipelines and DevOps environments.

  • Experience with cloud monitoring, observability, and performance-management tools.

  • Experience with cloud financial management, resource optimization, or FinOps concepts.

  • Experience deploying or integrating AI/ML workloads into cloud infrastructure.

  • Experience supporting large federal or regulated enterprise environments.

  • Certifications such as MCSE, ASEP, CSEP, AWS, Azure, or other relevant cloud or systems engineering certifications.
