Ryan Stevens grew up in the northwestern suburbs of Chicago, IL and currently resides in Greenville, South Carolina. He has an MS in Business Analytics and an MBA from Indiana University. Ryan’s passion for engineering and technology began when he was 14 years old and started building and hosting websites for friends and family. His early engineering experiences culminated in the redesign and development of the budgeting system utilized by a division of Student Affairs at his undergraduate alma mater, the University of Montana. For that he was awarded National Student Employee of the Year by NACUFS.
What is your role at Obsidian? How long have you been here?
My role at Obsidian is the Software Sustainment Manager, leading Task 2, for the G/TIMS contract. In this role, I’m responsible for the Software Engineering, Test, Database Engineering, and Requirements teams. I’ve been in this role, and with Obsidian for a little over a year.
What has been one of your proudest moments while working with Obsidian?
At our April 2025 Program Management Review, our customer Program Manager provided exceptionally specific and detailed praise for Task 2 - how much they appreciate the work of our team, and how grateful they are for our support. This is a testament to the hard work of dozens of individuals, which would not have been possible without Team Obsidian constructing such a great team!
What is your favorite way to spend the weekend?
Relax and recuperate – this can take several forms, from spending quality time with family and friends, to hiking, camping, traveling, etc. I try to focus on the simple things in life on the weekends.
How do you define success?
I define success as developing a strong, highly performing Team, that can deliver a quality product for our customer’s end-users. Their mission is essential, and our focus must be on supporting that mission, and providing solutions that makes their lives easier, more productive, and safer. When a Team comes together is and is able to deliver on that goal, I’d consider that a success.
What ranks number one on your bucket list?
This one is super clear - I’d like to take a long road trip and visit every National Park, and as many National Forests (there’s about 154) that I can. Nothing else on the bucket list even comes close!
